David Muir has given fans a ‘new nightmare’ after he halted ABC World News Tonight to deliver viewers some spine-tingling news, prompting a slew of reactions from users online
When David Muir isn’t getting fans hot under the collar with his hunky looks, it looks like he’s giving fans nightmares with some of his news segments.

The 52-year-old journalist was doing what he does best when he halted ABC World News Tonight for a rather unbelievable news story. Addressing viewers, David announced, “Tonight, that stunning headline is coming in from Thailand: a woman was found alive inside a coffin that was going to be sent for cremation.
“The 65-year-old woman’s brother saying she had been bedridden for two years. The family thought she had died when she appeared to stop breathing,” he continued.

“Staff at a temple then heard knocking, opening the coffin to find her alive. Tonight, she’s now being treated at the hospital,” David said, concluding his report.

As the host delivered the story to viewers, clips played of the elderly woman looking frail as she moved around inside the coffin, before she was then seen being put into an ambulance on a stretcher.

The segment was shared to ABC World News Tonight’s Instagram page, with the caption, “A 65-year-old woman in Thailand who’s been bedridden for the past two years appeared to stop breathing. But temple staff heard knocking coming from inside her coffin, and found the woman alive. @DavidMuirABC reports.”
Understandably, the segment sparked quite the reaction among fans, with one user sharing, “Wow! So wild, I had just saw a doctor on Tiktok talking about a medial miracle when he was an intern some 20 odd years ago… five mins after the doctors wrote down the time of death – guy started breathing.”
With a second person joking, “Remind me not to fall asleep in Thailand,” prompting a third to admit, “Well we all have our new nightmare…”

“Ouch, Might want to set some safety guidelines in place,” someone else pointed out, which was seconded by another who said, “Yeah, it looks like they’re missing some checks and balances in their death protocols.” While a sixth user said, “Thank God she came to before they started to cremate her!!” followed by a handful of scream face emojis.
The incident occurred at Wat Rat Prakhong Tham, a Buddhist temple located in the province of Nonthaburi on the outskirts of Bangkok. Workers at the temple posted a video on its Facebook page, showing the woman lying in a white coffin in the back of a pick-up truck, slightly moving her arms and head, leaving temple staff bewildered.
Pairat Soodthoop, the temple’s general and financial affairs manager, told The Associated Press on Monday that the 65-year-old woman’s brother drove her from the province of Phitsanulok to be cremated.
“I was a bit surprised, so I asked them to open the coffin, and everyone was startled,” he said, speaking of when the woman was found. “I saw her opening her eyes slightly and knocking on the side of the coffin. She must have been knocking for quite some time.”
According to Pairat, the relative said his sister had been bedridden for around two years, and when her health deteriorated, she became unresponsive, appearing to stop breathing two days ago.
He brother then placed her in a coffin and made the 500-kilometre (300-mile) journey to a hospital in Bangkok, to which the woman had previously expressed a wish to donate her organs.
However, the hospital refused to accept the brother’s offer as he didn’t have an official death certificate, Pairat explained. His temple offers a free cremation service, which is why the brother approached them on Sunday, where he was also refused due to the missing document.
The temple manager said that while he was explaining how to obtain a death certificate, they heard the knocking. They then assessed her and sent her to a nearby hospital. The abbot said the temple would cover her medical expenses, according to Pairat.
