The Seattle Seahawks are still celebrating their Super Bowl season—but one player’s rise has become impossible to ignore.
After a historic year, Jaxon Smith-Njigba just received another major honor, and it could be the beginning of an even bigger moment in his career.

Seahawks Star Jaxon Smith-Njigba Wins Major Honor as Contract Talks Loom
The Seattle Seahawks are pushing forward with plans to defend their Super Bowl title, but the organization is also taking time to celebrate one of the biggest stars behind their championship run.
Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has officially been named Men’s Sports Star of the Year at the 91st Seattle Sports Star Awards, adding yet another milestone to an already historic season.
The recognition highlights just how dominant Smith-Njigba was during the Seahawks’ championship campaign.
Seattle also received the Sports Story of the Year award for its Super Bowl victory, making the celebration even sweeter for the franchise.

For Smith-Njigba, however, the honor reflects something bigger: his transformation into one of the NFL’s most dangerous receivers.
A Record-Breaking Season in Seattle
Smith-Njigba didn’t just have a strong year—he delivered one of the most explosive seasons by a Seahawks receiver in recent memory.
After posting 1,138 receiving yards in 2024, he followed it up with an incredible 1,973-yard season in 2025, firmly establishing himself as the centerpiece of Seattle’s passing attack.

The Seahawks themselves summed up the performance with one word on social media:
“Encore.”
And the dominance didn’t stop in the regular season.
During Seattle’s three-game playoff run to the Super Bowl, Smith-Njigba added:
- 17 receptions
- 199 receiving yards
- 2 touchdowns (team-high)
His clutch performances helped power the Seahawks offense when the stakes were highest.
A Massive Contract Decision Is Coming

Now the Seahawks face a major decision regarding their superstar receiver.
Smith-Njigba has become eligible for a contract extension, and based on his production, he could soon become one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL.
Interestingly, the star receiver doesn’t seem worried about when the deal will happen.
Smith-Njigba recently made it clear that he trusts the organization and believes the right deal will come at the right time.
He expressed confidence that his value will eventually be recognized and even stated that he believes he deserves to be the highest-paid player at his position.

Despite that confidence, he also emphasized his love for the game itself, saying he would play football simply for the passion of it—but understands the business side of the sport.
Seahawks Offense May Lean on Him Even More
Smith-Njigba’s importance to the offense could grow even further in 2026.
The Seahawks recently lost running back Kenneth Walker III, the Super Bowl MVP, who left in free agency to join the Kansas City Chiefs.
With that explosive rushing production gone, Seattle may rely even more heavily on its passing attack—and that means more opportunities for Smith-Njigba.
Seahawks Retain Key Offensive Weapon
Seattle did make one key move to keep the offense intact.
The team re-signed wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, who played an important role during the Super Bowl season.
The decision earned praise from Seahawks legend Richard Sherman, who noted that Seattle made a smart investment in maintaining offensive continuity.
According to Sherman, Shaheed’s contract—reportedly around $17 million per year—was right in line with his market value, though it wasn’t guaranteed the Seahawks would spend that much given their future financial commitments.
The Future of Seattle’s Offense
With Smith-Njigba entering his prime and the Seahawks still riding the momentum of their championship season, the team’s offensive future appears bright.
But one thing is becoming increasingly clear.

The Seahawks’ next major contract negotiation could revolve around the same player who just dominated the league—and now holds another major honor in Seattle.
If Jaxon Smith-Njigba continues producing at this level, the Seahawks may soon be paying him like the superstar he has become.
