The agreement, featured in a broadcast that went live earlier this week, seeks to slash prices for the GLP-1 weight-loss medications Wegovy and Zepbound. Through this initiative, the Trump administration secured deals with Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of Wegovy, and Eli Lilly, the company behind Zepbound.
The objective is to enhance affordability and broaden access via Medicare and Medicaid. Based on the available information provided to ABC viewers, the revised pricing structure would reduce monthly expenses from approximately $500 to $1,000 to a range of $150 to $350 for qualifying individuals.
Following the broadcast, World News Tonight posted the segment to its official Instagram account, writing, “The Trump administration has announced deals with pharmaceutical giants Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly, which includes Wegovy and Zepbound. Medicare and Medicaid to cover the drugs for qualified patients. @marykbruce has details.”

The post generated intense reactions from followers, with one commenter questioning, “How much of a kickback is he getting from the deal?”
Another remarked, “Oh good we can get thin before we starve,” alluding to recent reductions in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which decreased monthly assistance for certain families earlier this year.
A third person commented, “Weight loss medications not needed when you’re starving families…” One person said, “Seniors on Medicare aren’t trying to loose weight! They want lower grocery prices and affordable housing!”.
“How about lowering cancer treatments or insulin? ? ? How about getting the government back to work. And making it illegal for the government to ‘shut down’,” another wrote. “Or hear me out.. figure out a way to lower the price of fruits, veggies, and organic items.”

A final commenter said, “How about doing what you first promised, LOWER GAS AND GROCERY PRICES,” another suggested.
One more chimed in, “What about inhalers for asthma that cost 800 a month? Those are life saving not weight loss drugs.
“Okay so what about insulin though,” a final ABC viewer wrote.
The new drug-pricing agreement forms part of a wider White House strategy to tackle expensive medication costs. It comes after other budget modifications under the Trump administration, including cuts to federal food assistance programs and tighter eligibility requirements for certain social benefits.
David Muir opened the segment by observing that Wegovy and Zepbound “have soared in popularity” but remain out of reach for many Americans.
