EXCLUSIVE: World News Tonight star David Muir has stayed humble about his rise to fame as he recognized those who helped him to achieve the incredible success he has found
David Muir is one of the most easily recognized faces on US TV, with his hugely successful World News Tonight earning the title of the most watched show in the US.

The ABC host has been a trusted figure in news reporting for many years now, also working as managing editor of World News Tonight, and as co-anchor of 20/20. He was recently honored with the 2025 Lew Klein Excellence in Media Award by Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communications in Philadelphia.
During his acceptance speech for the recognition he shared the importance of people living in small communities working to help one another. He said, “When you travel the country, I know what I hear most often is that we have far more in common than what divides us.

“It’s a very simple premise: go into small communities across the country and celebrate people trying to make a difference for their neighbors, lifting up the people across the street, keeping that business going around the corner. People are hungry for connection.”

He added, “I think it’s a goal that we could all set in this room — to continue to lift people up.” Muir then gave a special mention to the people from his past who helped him to achieve his incredible success and showed him support and encouragement.

Meeting journalism students at Temple’s Klein College, Muir said, “I have never forgotten all of those people who said yes to me, who answered that call, who encouraged me. It’s so important that we all in this room remember to look behind us and make sure the doors open for the next person to come through.”
The accolade was the latest for Muir who has also previously won an Emmy, Edward R. Murrow, George Polk and the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia awards. Earlier this year, he was also named as one of TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the world and received the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism in 2024.
