ABC World News Tonight viewers welcomed back their favorite anchor, David Muir, as he returned to the long-running show to deliever them the latest news and updates
David Muir was back doing what he does best on ABC World News Tonight and it’s fair to say fans were relieved for more reasons than one.

The 52-year-old journalist, who took the weekend off to celebrate his birthday, wasted no time getting back into the swing of things, halting the show to deliver a breaking news update on the ongoing federal shutdowns that have been wreaking havoc across the country.

“We begin here with the breaking news, the Senate vote tonight on day 41, of the longest government shutdown in US history. The end to the shutdown, possibly in sight,” David told viewers as he began the breaking news segment.

“Now, a handful of Senate Democrats siding with Republicans on a plan to reopen the government overnight. Now, the key vote coming tonight, and what it could mean for 1000s of workers furloughed and for workers fired during the shutdown.

“Tonight, this bill to reopen the government does not have that key demand from Democrats, their effort to extend Obamacare subsidies to keep insurance premiums from skyrocketing for millions in the coming months,” David continued.
He then explained, “After keeping the house out of session for weeks, Speaker Mike Johnson is now ordering all members back to Washington. It appears the earliest the house could vote on this is Wednesday.
“This comes amid growing uncertainty for more than 40 million Americans who rely on food assistance and on this Monday night, the chaos of the nation’s airports, even if the government reopens on Wednesday. It could take many days thereafter to get air travel back up and running at normal levels.”
“Delays at some airports today, up to four hours, and President Trump tonight, now threatening air traffic controllers who aren’t getting paid, saying they must get back to work. So, where does this stand at this hour? Rachel Scott leading us off with the breaking developments,” the ABC host concluded as he handed over to his colleague.

Rachel then dished the latest, as she announced, “Eight Senate Democrats breaking with their party to support a bipartisan bill to reopen the government, but it does not include Democrats’ key demand to extend Obamacare subsidies to prevent insurance premiums from doubling for millions.”
She then added, “As part of the compromise, Republicans promise to hold a future vote on health care, but not to actually pass any legislation. It seems like the health care bill that Democrats are putting on the floor has a very low chance of getting any Republican support, given that Republicans won’t promise to vote yes on extending insurance subsidies to prevent premiums from soaring from millions.”

Rachel also pointed out that President Donald Trump has ordered the Department of Agriculture to “cut off” food assistance for 42 million Americans.
The segment was shared on ABC World News Tonight’s Instagram account, where fans weighed in on the somewhat positive update. One user raved, “Finally some common sense,” as a second echoed, “Blame the Democrats for the longest shutdown.. Eight Dems finally came to their senses.. MAGA!! Let’s go!!”

“Thanx to those Democrats, who voted yes,” another said, with a fourth chiming in, “Senate passes a bill to end the government shutdown…. It’s a good thing….”
Meanwhile, a fifth viewer fumed, “Is our government run by a bunch of middle schoolers? Do your job and quite waiting everybody’s time!” It comes after fans were left “unbelievably sad” as beloved host David took a short break, leaving his colleague Whit Johnson in charge.
Whit announced that there was a “new report on the deadly shooting of a house cleaner in Indiana,” which saw a wife and mother of four shot through the front door when she mistakenly went to the wrong home. The update left fans in tears as they shared their upset for the family of Maria Florinda Rios Perez, who were featured in the report to speak out on the shocking incident.
