It was supposed to be a triumphant global moment for Donald Trumpâa showcase of âhistoric peace,â international leadership, and his self-declared mastery of world diplomacy.
Instead, the world watched a slow-motion train wreck.

On live television, with the leaders of Congo and Rwanda sitting stiffly beside him, Trump announced what he called a âhistoric peace deal.â But there was one massive problem:
The central group responsible for the violenceâM23âwasnât included. Wasnât present. Wasnât mentioned.
In other words, the deal wasnât a deal.
It was a prop.
And Trump couldnât even stay awake for it.
A Fake Agreement for a Real War
As Trump droned through his remarksâmispronouncing names, contradicting himself, and drifting off mid-sentenceâjournalists in the room exchanged looks. Everyone knew the truth:
People were dying in Congo the very same day Trump was declaring âpeace.â

One African reporter, brave enough to cut through the pageantry, asked the blunt question:
âIf this is a peace deal, why are people still being killed in Congo today?â
Trump blinked, turned toward the presidents beside him, and waved his hand as if shooing away reality.
âLook at them! Theyâre happy. They get along!â
They do not get along. And everyone in the room knew itâexcept, apparently, Donald Trump.
Even worse, Trump claimed the peace would materialize âin a few months⊠in a few years,â contradicting the âimmediate breakthroughâ he had bragged about seconds earlier.
The âdealâ was little more than a photo opâone that the actual leaders involved barely tolerated.
Trumpâs Confusion Hits New Levels
Trumpâs rambling only escalated from there.
He claimed he had been in Saudi Arabia âtwo months agoâ meeting the future king.
Fact check: He hadnât been there in months.
He struggled to pronounce basic African namesâso much so that after botching âPresident Kagame,â he gave up entirely and referred to him simply as âthe president of DRC,â pointing at the wrong man.
Then came the moment that had viewers recoiling:
Trump repeatedly stared at his own hand.
Camera angles later showed a bandage covering what looked like a swollen, injured hand. Trump kept glancing at it throughout the presser, visibly distracted, as if he himself didnât know what was wrong.
It was bizarre.
It was unsettling.
It was the President of the United States.
The Donald J. Trump âInstitute of Peaceâ â While Wars Rage Everywhere
In the middle of announcing a fake peace framework, Trump abruptly thanked Marco Rubio for renaming the U.S. Institute of Peace after himâthe Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace.

This happened while:
- war continues in Ukraine
- U.S. naval strikes killed dozens off Venezuela
- Trump threatened new conflicts abroad
- human rights groups accused his administration of crimes
And yet Trump praised Rubio for slapping his name on a federal buildingâdespite the fact that a court had already blocked Trumpâs firing of the instituteâs board members, calling it unlawful.
The applause from Trumpâs circle was muted.
The African leadersâ faces were stone.
No one was celebrating.
A Reporter Exposes the Charade
The final blow came when the African journalist repeated her question:
Youâre announcing peace, but there is no peace.
Congo is still under attack.
Troops are still engaged.
People are still dying.
Trumpâs answer?
A vague ramble about âmiracles,â âgreat men,â and âimmediate results,â even though heâd just said change might take years.
It was incoherent.
It was contradictory.
It was painfully clear he had no idea what was happening in Congo.
Dozing Off on Live TV
As Rwandaâs president gave a formal statement, Trumpâs eyelids drooped.
His head tilted.
His face slackened.
He was asleep.
On live television.
During a global peace announcement.
With foreign leaders sitting inches away.
The camera captured it all.
And Then Came the Final Insult
Hours later, Trump attacked Somalia and Somali-Americans, calling the entire country âthe worst on earthâ and claiming refugees should never have been allowed into the United States.
He blamed Barack Obama.
He blamed Minnesotaâs governor.
He smeared an entire nationality for political applause.
The contrast was jarring:
At the very moment Trump pretended to celebrate African âpeace,â he was attacking African nations and African people.
A Press Conference That Will Go Down as a Disaster
The event ended the only way it could:
- confused
- incoherent
- embarrassing
- internationally ridiculed
And for all the talk of peace, one truth remained:
Nothing changed in Congo. People still died that day. And Trumpâs âdealâ meant nothing.
