Trump’s War on Truth Is Letting Old Diseases Hunt Our Babies
Kentucky just confirmed its third infant death from whooping cough in 12 months.
Three babies. Gone. From a disease we already knew how to stop.
Over 560 cases have been reported in Kentucky this year alone, and more than 25,000 cases nationwide, the highest levels in over a decade. ERs in New Jersey are overflowing with RSV and flu. New York is blasting out flu alerts as cases spike 78% in a week. Connecticut has already recorded its first flu death of the season.
None of this should be happening in 2025.
These aren’t “mystery” viruses. These are old killers we buried with vaccines and public health—until this government decided to dig them back up.

Babies Too Young to Fight, Adults Too Misled to Protect Them
The infants who died in Kentucky were too young to be fully vaccinated. Their safety depended on the people around them—parents, caregivers, communities—being protected.
Whooping cough, or pertussis, is brutal. A bacteria attacks the tiny hair-like fibers in the lungs, releases toxins, and swells the airways. Babies can’t catch their breath. They turn red, then blue. Their little bodies fight for air while parents stand there, terrified, often not even knowing what they’re seeing.
This disease was largely under control.
Now, in 2025, it’s back. Not because the science failed. Because the politics changed.
RFK Jr., the Stacked Vaccine Panel, and the Hep B Betrayal
At the heart of this disaster is a quiet but deadly move: the takeover of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
Once a panel of independent experts, it’s now packed with political allies of RFK Jr. and long-time anti-vaccine activists handpicked by the current HHS Secretary. And their first big move? Target the newborn hepatitis B shot—a vaccine that cut child infections by 99% since 1991.
In a contentious vote, the new ACIP removed the universal recommendation for giving newborns the Hep B vaccine.
The tally: 8–3 in favor of weakening protection.

Two of the “no” voters, respected pediatric experts, begged the panel to understand what they were doing:
“We are doing harm with this recommendation… I hope this committee will take responsibility for the harm that may ensue.”
They won’t. And in the meantime, the consequences are deadly:
- Hepatitis B still kills 1.1 million people globally each year.
- The ACIP’s decisions shape what insurance will cover. When they say “don’t recommend,” insurers hear “don’t pay.”
- That means families will either pay out of pocket—or skip vaccines entirely.
As Dr. Peter Hotez put it bluntly:
“The new version of the ACIP has been stacked with antivaccine activists who either have no interest in the science or no ability to understand it.”
This isn’t “parental choice.” It’s engineered vulnerability.
If You Don’t Count It, Did It Really Happen?
At the same time, health surveillance systems are being quietly dismantled:
- No more robust tracking of RSV hospitalizations
- Patchy data on flu spikes
- Measles and whooping cough outbreaks under-reported or delayed
We’ve seen this playbook before.
When Trump’s first administration didn’t like what the COVID numbers showed, data was altered, delayed, or redirected away from independent experts. Now, the same mindset is back:
If the numbers make you look unprepared?
Stop counting.
No data, no crisis. Not because people aren’t dying—but because the public can’t prove it.
That’s not incompetence. That’s control.
The Real Public Health Threat: Autocracy
Here’s the core truth the doctors spell out:
Autocracy doesn’t start when leaders tell you what to think.
It starts when they decide what you’re allowed to know.
If you don’t measure disease, you can’t show neglect.
If you can’t prove an outbreak, you can’t demand action.
Without data, there is no accountability.
So leaders get to stand at a podium and insist everything is “under control” while:
- ERs overflow
- Babies die of preventable infections
- Communities with the least power suffer the most
Autocrats don’t fear disease.
They fear evidence of disease.
Because evidence exposes their failure. Evidence empowers the public. Evidence gives people a voice.
So they attack the scientists. Stack the committees. Kill the data. And let the disease quietly do what they’d never dare admit out loud: thin out the expendable.

Black and brown communities.
Immigrants.
Rural poor.
People with cancer, lupus, or other conditions that weaken the immune system.
Pregnant people and newborns.
It is mass neglect by design.
Control Is Not Vaccines. Control Is Truth.
There’s a lie being pushed that vaccines are “control.”
Vaccines are not control.
Truth is control.
Information is control.
Real control is:
- Knowing your tap water isn’t poisoned to protect a donor.
- Trusting your baby’s formula won’t send them to the ICU.
- Being certain your kid’s school isn’t a measles time bomb because some stacked panel decided to “wait on the science.”
Public health isn’t “big government.”
It’s the right not to be poisoned, lied to, or sacrificed for someone else’s politics.
Democracies rely on trust and shared reality.
Autocracies rely on fear and silence.
Right now, silence is the weapon. That’s why your silence is exactly what they want.
Call to Action: Get Loud. Get Vaccinated.
Here’s what the doctors are begging people to do:
- Vaccinate newborns with every shot still available.
- If you’re pregnant, get vaccinated—flu, whooping cough, COVID as recommended. Your baby depends on your antibodies.
- Don’t argue with trolls online. Just replace lies with facts.
- Share real information from credible doctors and institutions, not influencers with merch links.
Science has never taken away your freedom.
Science is what lets you live long enough to use it.
Autocracy hides the truth.
Public health shines a light.
So stay vigilant. Stay informed. Stay loud.
And above all, stay vaccinated.
